“It’s a beautiful day, don’t let it get away…” U2
Rediscovering camping and walking boots began with family, scouts, and a spark that grew into a lifelong rhythm of Moor, Mountain, Grow.

This picture was taken hours after completing the Yorkshire Three Peaks in 2018. My two children and myself completed several of the UK’s epic peaks on one big adventure.
From Scout Camp to Grandparent Guide
When I re-found the love to go camping, I was married with two young children. No tent, no plan—just an invitation to help at a scout camp.
Flash forward fifteen years: my children are adults, I’m a grandparent, and I’ve supported hundreds of people into European wild camping expeditions.

After organising several group camps, I recognised that the leaders felt isolated in their own tents. Together we co-designed a communal area where we could hang our hammocks and have a communal scout leader cooking area.
“Exploration is in our nature. We began as wanderers, and we are wanderers still.”
— Carl Sagan
A Message That Changed Everything
In September 2025, just as Blind Man Roy was about to pause, an ex-colleague offered me 10 life coaching slots.
That simple message reignited my creative streak and reminded me that I have more than the average employee.
I continued with the coaching and will be forever grateful for the rebirth of my former years.
“I am prepared to go anywhere, provided it be forward.”
— David Livingstone
Change Only Happens When We Make It Happen!
I now recognise my skill set is unique. Fifteen years of expedition planning is not something to doubt—it’s something to share.
- Helping people uncover unused skills
- Planning and funding European expeditions
- Managing people while balancing dreams and aspirations
- Exploring careers and retirement plans
- Coping with life-changing experiences
“Superhuman effort isn’t worth a damn unless it achieves results.”
— Ernest Shackleton
Three Days, Three Outcomes
I’ve created a three-day training course—no stress, no formal assessment pressure. Just learning, confidence, and plenty of laughs.
The aim is you’ll leave in one of three places:
- Confident to arrange your own long-distance hike or expedition
- Ready to pursue formal qualifications
- Simply glad you had a great weekend on Exmoor, already signing up for the next adventure

My options come at a cost, but not the kind that makes millionaires. My profit is knowing I’ve shared my lessons, alongside Team Moor, Mountain, Grow (MMG), without leaving anyone out of pocket.
Together, we can make the countryside less about a £330 coats and more about seeing nature for what it is. A place to come and heal!
“I had fun, and it was safe.”

🌿 Moor, Mountain, Grow: Confidence in the Countryside 🌿
In 2026, I will be launching a new initiative designed to open up the beauty of Exmoor to more people. Over the course of three days, participants will be guided through practical skills and confidence-building experiences that prepare them for longer expeditions in the years ahead.
This project is especially for those who have ever thought: “I’d love to go on a walking holiday, but I’m not sure how to organise it or whether I’d feel safe and confident enough.”
Moor, Mountain, Grow is about breaking down those barriers—creating an inclusive, supportive environment where everyone can discover the joy of the countryside, regardless of experience or background.
