Writing has become my way of juggling the three great loves of my life

:

1) My family,
2) My appetite for adventure.
3) My creative spark that sits on my shoulder like a tiny troublemaker whispering,

Go on. Tell them a story.

And tell it I’ve tried.

Because that spark didn’t stay quiet the day my nearly‑teenagers looked at me.

Father’s Day 2018.

With that dangerous mix of innocence and mischief and said:

Dad? Shall we climb the UK’s three peaks?

That was the moment the fuse lit. The moment the map unfolded. The moment Blind Man Roy. My own Ziggy‑Stardust‑with-a-cane alter ego stepped forward and said,

Right then! Let’s see what we’re made of!

He’s been nudging me ever since: to challenge the failings in the inclusive world, to speak up, to walk further, to write louder, to show that blindness isn’t the end of the story. It has just a different way of reading the landscape.

And yet, the writing of this adventure?

Still unfinished.

Even with a leading outdoor magazine offering space for it. Even with the memories tapping me on the shoulder every time I sit down with a keyboard and a cup of tea. But the journey did begin and you can step into it now.

Those pages mark the beginning of an eight‑day, cross‑UK odyssey. A dad, two kids, three peaks, and a whole lot of

moments.

It feels like a lifetime ago. And still, every time I hear of another blind person taking on Ben Nevis, something inside me cracks open.

A tear escapes, not out of weakness, but recognition. Because when I walked it, I had one cataract removed, one eye cloudy, one eye doing its best.
A world of silhouettes and contrast. A world where every step was a negotiation with the mountain.

But we did it, and the story is worth telling.

In 2018 I had my first eye surgery and had a cataracts removed.

If you read it, tell me.

Tell me if it’s worth continuing.
Tell me if the spark still has something to say. Tell me if Blind Man Roy should keep walking these pages.

Your comments matter more than you know.
